Jessica
is an individual with special needs and is mentally disabled.
She is a member of the Tamarac
Bulldogs, a Special Needs Organization in South Florida, and
is also an active member in Special
Olympics Broward County. Jessica's mission is to become a
productive member of society and also help provide that opportunity
to others like her.
The
ScentsAbility Story
To help contribute to the organizations that Jessica belongs to,
John and Bonnie volunteered to work concession stands and also
stood in front of many shopping centers holding signs asking for
financial support. One night John was trying to figure out how
to give the kids something to do during the day, and be able to
generate money for all the organizations that help them. He thought
about the candles he bought Bonnie for the holidays, very expensive
ones at that!

He jumped up in the middle of the night and said, "I've got
it!" Bonnie woke up startled and John said, "Let's have
the kids make candles! This can generate money for Jessica and
all her friends and give them each a job!"
And
that's how it all started. Today we make over 3,000 candles per
year. All of the kids/adults that are Jessica's special needs
friends are now involved with all aspects of production from setting
up the wax, to pouring molds, inserting wicks, putting on labels,
and even packaging. Every individual with special needs is so
excited to work at the candle factory. If you could only hear
the laughs and fun that they have every day. We can't say thank
you enough for all of your support.
